If you think about it pretty much everything around Lion bridge, Central railway station, woman's market, Pirotska as well as half of Stamboliiski Blvd all the way to the market behind the courthouse are full of gypsies. When you add the refugees and illegal imigrants around TsUM all the way down Maria Luiza it turns out that pretty much 30% of the area of the center is full of non white Bulgarians/foreigners.
Report this Nonsense! As a European, democratic country, a NATO and Schengen member, Bulgaria has many educated people, a number of modern companies, and its own traditions. I don't understand why you showed it as poor. Compared with Switzerland or Austria, yes, it is; but compared to the rest of Europe or the world, it definitely is not. When you prepare some content, you should read some statistics not only filming Geto Area.

Very biased video... half of the stories are about the Roma population and the Roma people are less than 10% in Bulgaria. Bulgaria is presented in this video by several minutes from Sofia and its Roma neighborhood. Next time try Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas... try Rila, Pirin and the Black sea. Then you can claim that you are showing Bulgaria to the world.
You didn't go to a traditional Bulgarian restaurant. The ones which are traditional have traditional design, old- inspired furniture, plates, clothing and traditional music and dances. Also the food there is amazing and you have plenty of choice of traditional Bulgarian dishes.
and are run by mafiosi who exploit their workers, keeping them for endless hours to barely make ends meet (plus they charge a fucking fortune for water, while it should be free)
Lady, come and integrate the roma population, please. There are some of them that are sociable, e.g. can live in a socium. They are well accepted in our society. But thete are some that just don"t want to live in a civilized way. There are numerous programs supporting the roma population, but they do not work. Do you think we want to keep them the way they are?
You said Bulgaria is misunderstood and there are many steryotypes about it. Yet throughout your entire video you showed many times roma people, who are only around 4% of the population (that's almost nothing). For comparison, almost the same percentage is the Turkish minority in Germany. I'v never seen anyone present Germnay with the Turks, but Bulgaria is always presented with the roma. Logic? No, there isn't. 😄 Your video is like any other videos about Bulgaria, don't see difference.

It's funny that the lady explains that being in the EU and NATO is freedom and democracy, given that Switzerland is neither in the EU nor in NATO. Then, when you show "contrasts", show both sides of the contrast, not just the one side! In the video, it's mainly gipsy, as if this is the most characteristic of Bulgaria. If they're not gipsy, they're drunk or talking about trash. Either she didn't understand anything about Bulgaria, or she's politically influenced somehow. And another note, we dont go to cafee or restorants to "be shown". We go because we like to communicate with family and friends, we like to eat good food while sharing our experiences and feeling good in a pleasant environment. Our culture is such that communication is important to us.
Hey, i saw your video about Serbia and i saw now this for Bulgaria - for our friends in Serbia the video was perfect and i enjoyed it. But for our country i didn't like the way you start to talk about us - the poorest most corrupt and so on. That's maybe true, but in comparison with the EUROPEAN'S UNION COUNTRIES - overall in EUROPE, we are not even the poorest, neither most corrupted. It's a big difference when you talk about EU and EUROPE.. Actually i'm not sure anymore that in EU we are the worst country in term of quality and costs of life, but that's another story! I didn't like the fact that in this video you showed the ugly side of our capital, as the old panel buildings, the gypsy people, which in fact almost every balkan country has - we have a lot of amazing places and if you wanted to script it like this, the video would not look like this 100 %! The title of the video is exactly in the bullseye " The most misundestood country" and i will tell you why. Still can not understand why our people and media wants so bad to show off the worst things from us, when in the same time we have so beatiful things to be proud of! I say this because, if we change our mindset then others will also change their opinion for us.
Hi dear, thank you so much for watching both videos and sharing your feedback with us. Your openness means a lot to us! We plan to do another project on Bulgaria in future! Sending you all our best! 🙏❤️

So far they care only about 'Roma' or if i can use they real name here-gypsies. Also i'm very 'impressed' of their knowledge about Bulgaria and especially the history of this country. Thanks to the great democracy over the past three decades, now bulgarians are 6.5 millions instead of 9. Make your own conclusions WHY?
Another ignorant brainwashed Bulgarian communist. First of all, most immigrants from Bulgaria are Roma and Turks, not ethnic Bulgarians. Why do you think in Europe they consider us Roma people? Also, the main reason the nation is shrinking is not migration, but the fact that many people don't want to have children, or have only one. This is worldwide phenomena, which has nothing to do with poloitics. Also, even during the sociallism, Roma and Turks, still had more children than Bulgarians, so if you think the 9 mil are Bulgarians, you are delusional and obviously not very smart. Why in 1989 the Turks were forced to leave the country? Bacause Zhivkov said they will become more than us. But you keep living in your dream. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hello! I live in Sofia but in your film I saw mainly gypsies and a few blocks from the old ones.. You walked through one of the pedestrian zones of Sofia. Sofia and Bulgaria is not what you showed. If someone wants to get an idea of Sofia or Bulgaria they will hardly understand anything and just like the title that Bulgaria is not understood and I did not understand anything about Sofia and not to say anything about Bulgaria. In my opinion the video should have been called something else.
I wonder why did you decide to take Italian (14'24") and Greek music (21'55") as a background, and not Bulgarian one when you talk about Bulgaria? Some preliminaty research would have been helpfull... And I am really sorry for you not realiziing that you became the mock of the card playing roma men...
This is akin to going to Bradford or Westminster and claiming to have captured the soul of the country. In both instances, it would be a misrepresentation.
I am bulgarian myself and I live in England. I have english friends who have asked me how it is in Bulgaria. And I tell them - it's good for tourism, bad for living.

This is a little bit of unorthodox presentation of Bulgaria, but unlike some of the comments below -> I do appreciate the more modern take together with the research you did about our history and past as well as mentioning details we really are proud of and are not often mentioned by other travel reviewers in RUclips to be honest! Thank you for taking the time and appreciating the beauty although sometimes hidden behind cold exterior...you managed to touch a lot of aspects of life in Sofia so good job!
By the way -> we do not drink alcohol, because of the economic hardship...it is a cultural Balkan thing -> we were going to be drunkheads even if we were the richest in Europe lol...our bodies have more enzymes to cope with alcohol and Rakija is actually helping us stay away from the Big Pharma shenanigans, which are probably more dangerous in the long-term...cannot say the same about smoking, but that is also a very ancient Balkan cultural mark as a whole with the tabaco! 😉
Hi dear, it means the world to us that you appreciate our take on Bulgaria and saw the beauty we tried to show. 🥰🥰 Thank you for your awesome comment! 🙌❤️🇧🇬
HellooO ! I am suprised how Sofia look very clean and some people speak Enligh :O ! I am also planning a trip to Bulgaria and look for Bulgarian language lessons before ^^
Nice shots from Lulin 5 and the market. As for the gypsies- they live their way of life, we do ours and such we co-exist. We know eachother capabilities and do not really mingle. And this is how we live in peace for hundreds of years
I wouldn't say the Roma in Bulgaria are discriminated against (as for example the black people are/were discriminated against in the US or South Africa). Or misrepresented. If they are, it is because of their choosing. Said simply, it is their way of life. It doesn't make them discriminated, it just makes them Roma. There are many examples, but suffice to say that even France or Germany prefer to kick them out of their countries rather than integrate them in the society. In fact, if you searched enough you could find many Roma people in Bulgaria who live better and are richer than the average Bulgarian but in spite of it, their mentality still remains one of a Roma. And there are also examples, fewer in number, of Roma who have achieved the heights of their personal development in the society - such as medical doctors for example. Overall, your video not only does not paint a true picture of the Roma, but also doesn't give a real picture of Bulgaria and the Bulgarians in general.
To those posting here who are unhappy that she showed only certain sides of Sofia, I am an American and when I watched this I did not take it to be the whole of Bulgaria or even Sofia. I understood this video as a look at selected scenes and parts of the city. People understand that any city has difficulties and troubled sections, but we also undertstand that the same cities have great aspects. And this video overall did not give me any negative impression of Sofia. I thought this looks like a good city, and an interesting place to visit.
Dear Brian, we appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts on the video here with the community. Thank you so much! 🙏🤗 We send lots of love and good wishes your way. 🫶
Thank you for the good video, but as a Bulgarian I would recommend you to show beautiful Bulgaria, namely the city of Veliko Tarnovo, Smolyan, Burgas and the sea, Plovdiv. The Rhodope Mountains, Rila, Pirin and Stara Planina. Sofia is the cesspool of Bulgaria!

As a Bulgarian, I dare say that this video presents a rather limited and subjective perspective of Bulgaria. I do not deny that this country has a lot of problems and is quite misunderstood by the other EU nations, but you are not really making an honest effort to equally show both its bright and its dark sides. As I see it, you are only contributing to the misunderstanding. You are failing to capture the true Bulgarian spirit and 1300 plus years of Bulgarian history in this 25 minute video. So, thanks for the attempt, I guess...
Hi dear, thank you, we appreciate your honesty! 🙏 Maybe you stick around for future videos, as Bulgaria is a country we would love to explore further! ♥️
@@goingtoworld You are welcome to visit again! I only ask that you approach Bulgaria's history and culture with an open mind. It may seem like a unique blend of European, Asian, and Middle Eastern civilizations, and indeed, we take great pride in this diversity!

Good video and I say that as a Bulgarian! :) I understand the frustration of some of the commenters, to an extent they have a point that this is far from the "standard" tourist experience as you visited and showed the more underdeveloped and unpleasant places that tourists won't usually see. In other words, a person could stay 2 days in Sofia exploring the city center or a week if you also go in the mountain and the other great cities like Plovdiv. That would also be my recommendation for travelers who visit the country. However, most of the content of the video is still truthful and I didn't find any of it to be misleading or offensive at all. In fact people here complain about the same issues - pollution, low living standard, scarcity of career opportunities outside of Sofia, etc. But it hits a bit differently when presented as a commentary by somebody else.
Dear Пламен Гоцев, we are deeply grateful for your thoughtful comment and that you share your view as a BULGARIAN! 🥰🇧🇬 Thank you for taking the time to engage so openly with us and our community! We are happy about your support and send love and best wishes your way! ❤️🇧🇬

Thanks for sharing your frank opinion. 🙏
It's not that they do not want to work, they are not given jobs by and large from the Bulgarians. it's discrimination by any measure!@@goingtoworld
And there are many neighbourhoods with new modern buildings and no trash where many Bulgarians live.
Funny comment that don't need to be taken seriously
It's not Europe's poorest. It's the EU's poorest. A slight difference
This video is a pure misinformation and cheap propaganda of stereotypes!
Not bad video, but it shows the worst of the country...
We like your RUclips channel description: "That's how we should be, looking for the drops of goodness even in the most poisonous moments of our lives!" 🙏
Why do you focus only on Roma people and we have many places that are worth visiting

Forced? Hardly. Chose to - yes. Why didn't you choose Malawi or Zambia? Climate's good, I hear.
They did the same with Romania. Went there like they would have gone from Switzerland into the Amazonian jungle.
Correction: 4 million Bulgarians, 1.5 million Turks & 1 million Gypsies/RomasTzigani...

This Mitko immediately when he took out the ouzo, I thought he is from Vratsa😅 Pustinyak🥳
Bulgaria is great!
Thanks you for the video brought up alot of memory

The most misunderstood country.. I totally disagree as a Bulgarian. Why do you state facts when you are not sure about?

. Danke, dass du das erwähnt hast! Es sind nicht viele, die das wissen.👍
Why ununderstandable country, ask me and I*ll tell everything about Bulgaria !😅

What does "English language" and "modern" have to do with each other? I can say that If you are not speaking Bulgarian you are not modern too, by your arrogant standart.

Hello 👋 dear! ☺️ A thousand thanks for watching and for your appreciation! 🙏
Developed if we still had all the land still how it is since the Bulgarian empire
Thank you for promoting my country! One thing I am not able to comprehend is the thumbnail of this video. At first glance - we have a lot of casinos and gambling houses, I understand.
